I am sure you have gone through hard time in choosing the right water treatment system. Some are just not even “apple to apple” kind of comparison due to its different nature and functions, some are totally different methology, some just do not produce the similar outcome. In order to do that, the best comparison is to compare the end result which is the “Filtered Water” or the “Purified Water”. To understand which water treatment system provide the best water filtration, we will need to understand what a system does and does not perform. We are discussing only the water treatment after water has been supplied to by the water work department.

Distillation

This is not equivalent to boiling water where molecules of water did not leave the original container and stay with whatever other molecules originally there. In distillation, water is being heaten up to its boiling point continuously, the evaporate water molecules will be recaptured by cooling down the steam vapor and collect in another clean container. Both method remove bacteria effectively, but distillation remove traces of minerals like iron, calcium, etc (which obviously has higher boiling point) etc by evaporate into air first. However, contaminants having lower boiling point than water like benzene will not be able to screen out.

Advantage:- Effectively remove bacteria and heavy metals.

Disadvantage:- Also remove trace of natural minerals in water and almost everything else other than water.

Reverse Osmosis

We will need to understand what is Osmosis process, where molecules of water migrate naturally from a weaker saline solution to a stronger saline solution, gradually equalizing the saline composition of each solution which is divided by a semi-permeable membrane. Reverse Osmosis, the opposite of natural osmosis process of water in which the molecules of water are being pressurized to go through a semi-permeable membrane from stronger saline solution to weaker side ( any contaminants having molecule size bigger than water will not pass through).

Advantage:- Remove fluoride, chloride and other harmful particles.

Disadvantage:- Also remove trace of minerals like salt, lead, manganese, iron, and calcium. Can not remove chlorine and volatile organic chemicals which are relatively smaller in size. Having to remove alkaline mineral constituents of water, produces acidic water which will strip off calcium in bones and teeth in order to neutralize acidtiy in it.

Water Filter

By the name it means involvement of some filtration medium, physically intercept selected particles from passing through, or chemically transform selected molecule into other form, or even using the combination of both.

Ceramic filter

Ceramic water filters come as a cartridge that fits a normal bench top filter. Some ceramic filters incorporate nano-silver impregnated into a porous ceramic outer shell that can trap bacteria down to as low as .22 of a micron in particle size [1/100,000 of an inch].

Laboratories consider a filtering medium with an effective pore size of .01 micron to .45 micron to be bacteriologically sterile and .45 micron to 1.0 micron to be bacteriologically safe. Re growth of bacteria that becomes trapped either on the outside of the element or in the ceramic’s pores is controlled by the silver which, on contact with water, releases small quantities of positively charged metals ions.

However, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), chlorine and other undesirable odor and taste compounds, will remain in the treated water after ceramic filtering.

These ions are taken into the enzyme system of the bacteria’s cell and thereby neutralize it.

Advantage: Effectively remove bacteria

Disadvantage: Flow rate of ceramic water filters are slow. However, the flow rate of the ceramic filter can be improvised by brushing its outer surface under running water. As the top layer of ceramic and contaminants are brushed off and flushed away, a new layer becomes available.

Charcoal Filter

Charcoal water filter derived from coconut husk . This absorbs impurities as the water passes through. This form of filter comprises possibly 95% of those in use domestically. They are simple to install, relatively economical, and depending on micron level, will filter out the most deadly of contaminants, Cryptosporidium and Guardia. Some charcoal filters are enhanced by the use of activated nano-silver, which provides extra antibacterial protection, killing around 650 known types of organisms.

Advantage: Effectively remove most contaminants by absorbing impurities and economical. Minerals in solution can still permeate a charcoal filter. These minerals are essential to health.

Disadvantage: Need to be replaced at the interval of 9 – 12 months (but its cheap and safe). In area where sediment is a problem, the filter will get clogged easily. Installing a pre filter will prolong its life span.

Pre Filter

In area where sludge and large solid particles are a problem, pre filter is the solution. It is usually a membrane that block large sediments or particles from passing through and thus prolong the water treatment system.

Advantage: Filter all the large particles and sediments, the water will appear clean and clear from human eyes. Prolong the life span of main water treatment system, and it’s more economical to install one. It is comparatively much cheaper than the main unit and most of it is cleanable (which make it more lasting).

Disadvantage: Always need to be cleaned when the flow of water is slow, only remove large particles, not chlorine, bacteria and other contaminants. Will need to be replaced regularly.

So what make the best water treatment system?

In conclusion, there is no one filter that can be called as the best water treatment system. Every filter will have the goods and bads, lets put the cost factor aside as I had mentioned in my other articles; cost come later after you compare the effectiveness of water treatment system.

Has this ever come across your mind; if one filter can not be the best water treatment system, why not have a combination of all?

Multi-Stage Water Filtration System!

The best water treatment system is to make use of all the advantages of the filters or filtration system, to compensate the shortfall of others. A multi-stage water filtration system will remove the sediments, large particles, contaminants, bacteria, toxins, chlorine and odors, but leaving the trace of minerals, which is vital to our body fluids.

I can not stress enough the importance when come to choosing the right water purification system, effectiveness in removing all the unwanted contaminants as the main purpose of having a water filtration system, but leaving the good minerals in the water as the nature intended it to be.

When come to cost factor, the main concern will be that you are paying for the reliability (research & development) of the system, instead of contributing to unnecessary advertising and promotion for the branding exercise. Another cost factor to consider is the replacement cartridges pricing and availability of it. No point having a cheap main system, but the replacement cost of ct ridges that will burn a hole in your pocket. Some water filter replacement parts are easily available, some are not and might have even ceased production.

I wish you and your family in best of health, especially the young ones who need healthy water to grow and excel in life.

When it comes the time to decide on a water purification system for your home, it would be alright to choose any water purifier rather than not choosing any at all. Of course, there are some differences among water purifiers. Some water purifiers are more efficient or work better than others. Sometimes the difference in price does not translate into a difference in quality. We have included here some important information that can help you when shopping around for the appropriate water system for your home.

When selecting the proper water purification system, health and safety should be non negotiable essential elements to be taken into consideration. It is helpful to know that primarily public treatment installations try to protect our health through disinfection. Depending on the steps used by the public treatment facilities to disinfect the water, you may end up using more than one water purifier depending on the source of your water.

If you do not have a water treatment facility in your area, then you should seriously consider the source of your water before you decide on a water purifier. There are usually a number of pollutants in water that need to be dealt with and consequently there are various steps that need to be taken to accomplish that purpose. Public treatment facilities use various steps to disinfect the water and you may end up using more than one water purifier depending on the source of your water.

For instance, in the rare occasion that your water is obtained from a river or lake you need a thorough lake or river-water purification. In that case, the total process may include the following water purification systems: reverse osmosis, selective distillation and filtration. This is so because each water purification system focuses on specific contaminants and fails to eliminate others. Just look at the following analysis:

Water purifiers that use distillation are needed to kill bacteria, but if you boil the water you can get the same effective results. When your water comes from a treatment facility, disinfection has already been done, and usually E. coli and other bacteria are not present, except in the case of a massive storm or similar event. But bacteria might still be present in the spore step of evolvement. Reverse osmosis water purifiers do not remove herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, THMs or bacterial contaminants. You are more likely not to use this purifier since your water source might not be a lake or river, and consequently you can skip this step in the process. This step is completed at the public’s water purification program if your water comes from that source.

The water purifier that uses distillation does so in order to kill bacteria, but if you boil the water you can get the same effective results. If your water comes from a treatment facility, disinfection has already been done, and E coli and other bacteria are not present, except in the case of a massive storm or similar event. But bacteria might still be present in the spore step of evolvement.

Selective filtration water purification involves the use of a variety of filtering media to remove a number of different contaminants. The quality and number of stages in a water purifier will affect the performance and contaminant removal. You should always read product performance data, before you buy. Careful water purification systems use thorough filtration or a various filtering media to get rid of the majority of contaminants. You need to check about the quality and steps used by the water purifier before you buy it, since these elements will affect the outcome regarding the removal of contaminants and the operation of the system. We can take a look at one of the best water purifiers on the market with a multi-stage system. Careful water purification systems use thorough filtration or a various filtering media to get rid of the majority of contaminants. You need to check about the quality and steps used by the water purifier before you buy it, since these elements will affect the outcome regarding the removal of contaminants and the operation of the system. After that, a multi-media block catches gaseous contaminants, like THMs. The public water purification uses methods that cannot remove the bacterial cysts that the sub-micron sized pores of the block remove. Ultimately, the water is purified by passing it through and ion exchange stage.

The ion exchange step removes lead and other metallic contaminants by exchanging the ions of the contaminants for potassium and sodium. Through the addition of this last step, the final outcome is an improved taste and healthfulness due an improved mineral content and balancing of the pH level.

Most homes only require the use of a selective filtration water purifier, but in cases of floods or even heavy rains E-coli bacteria may be present. The majority of homes only require the use of a selective water purifier, but you should be aware that E. coli bacteria might be present in cases of floods or heavy rains. Commonly, the public water purification facility makes extra efforts in informing the public when those situations arise. When those events occur, you are well advised to take precautions and first filter the water and then boil. Please drink pure and healthy water. If that is the case, you would want to filter the water first and then boil it. Make sure you drink healthy water.

test blog

While it’s true that tankless water heaters save energy and can provide an endless supply of hot water, it’s also true that tankless units take longer to get the hot water to the fixtures. Since a tankless heater needs to heat the water before it can deliver hot water to you, you have to wait longer. The only way to get the hot water of course is to run the faucet. So while you run the faucet and wait, you are dumping gallon after gallon of pure clean water down the drain. Water that required energy for pumping and treating it. Pumping and treating the water uses energy which in turn means green house gasses being released into the atmosphere.

The heater can be pictured as a long piece of pipe coiled up and placed over a fire. As the water flows through the pipe it gets hotter. In order to reach full temperature it has to stay in the fire for a certain period of time. It will take longer if the water starts out colder. If you speed up the flow of water it will get cooler, unless you add more fire. With the old storage heaters the tank full of hot water is ready to go the moment the faucet is opened so you get your hot water faster.

With tank type heaters what has been done in the past to both speed up the delivery of hot water and eliminate running the water down the drain while you wait is to create a loop in the hot side of the plumbing so you can pump the hot water around the loop, keeping the pipe full of hot water. That way when you turn on the faucet you get instant hot water every time whenever you want it. It works great with a tank type heater except for the fact that it uses a whole lot of energy keeping the piping warm.

But you can’t do that with the tankless unit because tankless heaters turn on when they detect water flowing through them. Usually it takes ½ gallon per minute of flow or more to activate most tankless heaters. Most circulating systems don’t produce that much flow. If they did, then the water heater would be on all of the time. Using a standard circulating system with a tankless heater will void the warranty in almost every case anyway.

There is another type of hot water delivery system called a demand system that will work just fine with tankless water heaters. The way it works is a small pump is installed under the sink furthest from the water heater. When you want hot water you press a button and the demand system pumps the water at high speed from the water heater to the fixture. The system has a temperature sensor monitoring the temperature of the water, and when it senses an increase in temperature it shuts off the pump. This prevents hot water from entering the cold water lines.

Since the pump only runs for a few seconds at a time it uses very little energy. Typically it uses less than $1.00 per year in electricity. It doesn’t use any more heat energy than a standard plumbing system. It saves 100% of the water normally run down the drain waiting for the hot to arrive.

Demand systems are suitable for use with tankless water heaters since the pump only runs for a short time, and will not void the warranty of the water heater. Not all demand systems have strong enough pumps to run tankless water heaters though, so you should check with the manufacturer before you make the purchase.

Metlund makes a demand system they call a D’mand system. They have several models, and I think the largest model has a strong enough pump to use with a tankless heater. Metlund’s d’mand pumps range from 1/40 horsepower for the smallest to 1/8 horsepower for the biggest. Chilipepper makes a demand system, and they only make one model, the CP6000. The CP6000 has the most powerful pump of any system on the market, (approximately 1/3 horsepower) and will work with any tankless water heater.

Another reason for using a more powerful pump is that the more power the pump has the faster the hot water will arrive at the fixture.

By combining your energy efficient tankless water heater with a hot water demand system you get the best of both worlds…you are energy efficient and you conserve water. It’s a great feeling to know that you are doing your part to protect the environment and conserve our natural resources every time you use hot water.

test blog

Have you ever thought about the water purification technology behind your water filter unit? As you know, there are different types of water filter units available in the market today and each company claims that their product is the best one. But, how do you know which is actually the best one? And how important is it to use the best one? Let me tell you.

First of all, you should understand the meaning of the term water purification technology. A water filter, as the name suggests, purifies or filters water and gives you pure water. In this process, it destroys a lot of harmful substances present in water including bacteria, chemicals, hard metals, and others. Now, in order to get rid of all these substances effectively, you need to use a good water purifier.

A lot of people today are a little complacent about the water they drink and use for other purposes. Unless your water purifier uses the best technology possible, your water is not a hundred percent pure. In this case, you’ll still be drinking water with traces of contaminants which are harmful for your health. And there is a huge list of waterborne diseases that you can get by drinking or using such water regularly. This is why it becomes extremely important to find if the water filter you use runs on the best water purification technology or not.

Now that you know how important water purification is, how do you find out which is the best method? For that, you need to know the different methods of water purification and compare them with each other. The three most popular water purification methods today are reverse osmosis, point of use distillation, and active carbon block filtration.

Reverse osmosis is one of the popular methods of water purification. An RO unit consists of a semi permeable membrane and a highly porous, fine structure through which water is passed under pressure.

In point of use distillation, water is passed through a hot coil after which it becomes water vapor. Then, the vapor is passed through a cooling chamber where it becomes water again.

In active carbon filtration, water is passed through active carbon blocks which get rid of contaminants and give you pure water.

Among these three methods of water purification, active carbon filtration is considered the best by doctors around the world for a simple reason. It is more effective than both RO and point of use filtration. Let me explain.

Both RO and point of use filtration are not effective against certain types of contaminants. RO doesn’t get rid of the herbicide traces present in water and filtration doesn’t get rid of the organic compounds present in water. Also, they tend to destroy the natural minerals present in water, which are essential for your body. As a result, the water you get from these methods is not only impure, but also unhealthy. But active carbon filtration is different from these two methods. It can get rid of the contaminants completely and it also retains the essential minerals present in water. So, the water you get is both safe and healthy to drink. This is the reason why doctors around the world recommend active carbon filter units for people.

Now that you have all the details you want about water purification technology, make the right decision today and get yourself a good water filter unit. Remember, you deserve nothing but the best.

test blog

Before we examine the benefits of a hot water demand system lets make sure we know what it is. For those of you who have not encountered one, a demand hot water system is a hot water delivery system that uses a pump get your hot water from your water heater to your fixture quickly without wastefully running water down the drain.

When you want hot water you press a button which turns on the pump, speeding hot water to you, while pumping the cooled off water in the piping back to the inlet of the water heater. It just pumps the water around in a big loop. When hot water reaches the pump it shuts off, preventing the cold water line from filling with hot water. At that point you have instant hot water when you turn on the tap. Several manufactures of demand systems offer other methods than a button to turn on the pumps, such as motion detectors and photo cells.

Depending upon how your house is plumbed you may be able to cover a number of fixtures with just one pump. Most often the pump is placed at the fixture furthest from the water heater; however it’s not difficult to find the best location for the pump. To do so, go to the sink where you think the pump should be located, and turn on the hot fixture letting the water run until it is hot, then shut it off. You have just simulated the operation of a demand system. The difference is you ran water down the drain waiting for the hot, but the pump would not. Now if you go to another fixture and turn on the hot water, you will be able to tell it you get hot water more quickly than normal. You have to wait at least an hour between tests to let the piping cool off.

There are a number of benefits to having a demand system in your home. With most installations you save time since you don’t have to wait quite as long as you would with a normal plumbing system. Better than that though is the water savings. In homes with long pipe runs to the most frequently used fixtures the water savings can be huge. Studies have shown that a family of four can save over 15,000 gallons of water per year.

You might get cleaner dishes. The number one complaint that dish washer manufacturers hear about from their customers is the dishes don’t get clean enough. According to the manufacturers the reason is nearly always the temperature of the water. If it is not hot enough it doesn’t completely dissolve the soap, and hence the dishes don’t get as clean. Before you it the run button on the dishwasher, hit the demand system button.

If you are the kind of person who turns on the shower and then goes and does something else while waiting for the hot water to arrive, and comes back to find the water is hot, then you could save significant amounts of energy. Heating the water is far more expensive than paying for the water itself, so running heated water down the drain is expensive. A demand pumping system eliminates this waste of energy.

If you have a septic system, then you know that reducing the amount of sewage entering the system is a good thing. Homes with septic systems often have a well to supply fresh water. If you have a well, you have a water pump. Reducing the amount of water being used by the system reduces the run time for the pump, reducing your energy usage and saving you money.

Demand systems use very little energy. Since the motor only runs for a few seconds at a time they typically use less than $1.00 per year in electricity. And since they don’t circulate hot water into the cold water line, they do not use more heat energy than a normal plumbing system.

If you have city water and sewage, then by reducing you water consumption you are reducing the amount of pumping and treating that must be done to the water supply, thus reducing energy usage and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.

If you happen to have a tankless water heater then you are probably aware that it takes even longer to get hot water with such a heater, and that of course, makes the demand system just that much more valuable. Although hot water circulating systems don’t work with tankless heaters, most demand systems do. Some demand systems do not have a high enough flow rate to turn on a tankless heater, so check with the manufacturer before making your purchase. The Chilipepper appliance will turn on any tankless heater.

Demand systems are pretty easy to install. The pumps connect between the hot and cold water lines, and with some systems such as the Chilipepper appliance you don’t even need to turn off the water main, just the two angle stops under the sink. You do need a 110 volt outlet to provide power to the pump. If you don’t want to mount a button, or if you want to be able to activate the system from another location, most pumps offer remote control, X-10 control, or wireless remote operation.

If you decide to install a demand system in your home you should check with your water company, as many water suppliers are offering substantial rebates for hot water demand systems.

test blog

Gradually over the years a lot of things have changed, and a lot have not. For instance, gone are the days when opening your faucet wide open produced flows of 10 gallons per minute. Over time water has become much more valuable, and measures have been put in place to conserve water. These days all fixtures have flow restrictors and you just can’t get a 10 gallon per minute flow rate. The shower has pretty much been reduced to 2 gallons per minute and the bathroom sink to about ¾ gallon per minute.

Years ago it was common in expensive homes to find hot water circulating systems that provided the home owner with instant hot water at any fixture in the house. The plumber would run the hot water piping in a loop from the water heater outlet to a fixture and from that fixture to the next and so on until he reached the last fixture. From the last fixture he would run a pipe back to the inlet of the water heater where a pump and check valve were located.

The pipe from the last fixture back to the water heater is known as a dedicated return line. A check valve located between the return line and the water heater inlet kept water from being drawn backwards through the return line when a fixture was in use. There would be a pump located either at the water heater outlet or at the return line at the water heater inlet, that would circulate the hot water through the hot piping, keeping hot water in the piping all of the time. That way when ever a hot water tap was turned on there would be instant hot water.

Instant water is wonderful, but it is expensive. By keeping the hot water piping full of hot water all the time a great deal of heat energy is being lost from the piping, even when fully insulated since there is so much darned surface area on a piping system. With the full time circulating system you not only pay for the heat energy being lost from the plumbing, but also you pay for the energy to run the pump all the time, and your water heater doesn’t last as long. You can put the pump on a clock timer and shut the system off during times of little use, but that can be quite an inconvenience and the system will still waste huge amounts of energy.

A nice side benefit of instant hot water is the conservation of water. You don’t run thousands of gallons per year of water down the drain waiting for hot water to arrive.

One of the problems with hot water circulating systems is that they do not work with tankless water heaters which are becoming very popular. The problem is that tankless water heaters are turned on when water flows through them. Since the circulating system continuously circulates the hot water, the water heater would be on all of the time. That just wouldn’t work out very well. It’s unfortunate since tankless water heaters take a little longer than storage heaters to deliver your hot water.

However, considering the cost of both energy and water these days there should be a way of saving both. The good news is that there are systems that can do both. These systems are known as “demand” hot water systems since the user must demand hot water to get it. The way the user typically demands hot water is by pressing a button near the fixture.

Most demand systems are marketed toward existing homes that do not have a dedicated return line. A return line can be very expensive to install, but there are some systems now that do not require a return line. These systems use the cold water piping as the return line.

The pump is located at the fixture furthest from the water heater and is connected to the hot and cold water lines. When the pump is activated it pumps water from the water heater through the piping and then into the cold water line and on back to the water heater. When the pump detects a rapid increase in temperature it shuts off, and hot water is now just a couple of seconds away once the tap is turned on.

Since the pump only runs for a few seconds, and only when hot water is needed, it uses very little energy. Typically a demand system uses about $1.00 or $2.00 per year in electricity. The water heater does not use any more energy than a normal system uses, and a typical family of four can save up to about 15,000 gallons of water per year. Typically these pumps can pump the water to the fixture about twice as fast as by running the tap at full blast.

Another nice feature of demand hot water systems is that they will work fine with tankless water heaters since they don’t circulate the water, just deliver it. Some demand systems models manufactured by Metlund and Taco do not have enough power to turn on the tankless heaters, so check before you purchase if you have a tankless heater. The Chilipepper appliance, a demand system manufactured by Chilipepper Sales is powerful enough to run any tankless water heater, and is less expensive than the Metlund D’Mand Systems and the Taco systems.

By installing a demand hot water system you will not only have the convenience of fast hot water, but you will be saving a whole lot of water, and therefore reducing green house gases being released into the atmosphere, and you will feel good about it every time you use your hot water.

What is a tankless water heater? This water storage and heating device only produces hot water when it is required. On demand water heater or instantaneous water heater are some of the other common names that may refer to a tankless water heater. Because they provide hot water on demand, chances of incurring huge electricity bills are remote since there is no wastage.

Tankless water heaters are not reservoirs for hot water as there is no preheating of water. Rather as you switch on the faucet, the water temperature rises gradually to a preset point by the time it comes out of the tap. The tankless heater normally has some heating device, which may be electrical or gaseous in nature. When water starts running in the tap, it triggers the heating mechanism, which begins the instant heating of water. Consequently, the water coming out of the tap is hot and continues to flow for as long as it is required.

The rate at which a tank-less water heater releases water is quite high although it depends on the size of the storage facility in use. The same factor also determines for how long the water keeps flowing out of the tank. The bigger the reservoir the longer the hot water will flow out. This water heating facility can be used produce hot water in the house for multiple uses such as hot showers, dish washing and laundry applications. If extensive enough, the tankless water heater can serve several houses or even homes at the same time. Tankless water heaters also serve other purposes in different situations such as heating water in a swimming pool. One can use them to heat water in far-flung tubs, bathrooms while they also come in handy in providing hot water in outdoor sinks and for remote barbeque’s.

Tankless waster heaters may differ by the quantity of water that they can heat and the mechanism that drives them. Those that have the capacity to provide more hot water at a very fast rate are more efficient than those that provide a little water at very slow rates. Furthermore, tankless water heaters that are ran by gas heat water at a faster rate than those that run on electricity or other means. Therefore, one can expect more hot water form a gas run tankless water heater than an electric one. However, both mechanisms are efficient and are likely to heat the water to the required temperature without much of a hassle.

The positioning of the tankless water heater in the house depends on what role it plays in the house. A system that should heat the whole house enjoys prime position at the center of the house. On the other hand, one that only heats a specific part of the house or for a particular purpose such as a bathtub deserves placement near the tub.

The costing of a tankless water heater is a product of various factors. On such factor is whether the heating system will be gaseous or electric. A tankless water heater for a single point in the house will cost less than if it were to cover the whole house or outdoor apparatus such as swimming pools. What is a tankless water heater is a question that not very many people will need answers to after reading this article.

test blog

I am sure everyone of us are aware of the health effects of drinking different types of water. Especially in the developed countries household, we don’t drink unfiltered tap water which had not pass through the water purification systems for home because of its hazards to our health due to the containing like parasites, chlorine, fluoride and dioxins. So, the most used method (but not the best way) to get rid of all that is to drink distilled water where only water molecules (H2O) are being collected in the distillation process. Other ingredients are being separated due to higher boiling points than water.

It is perfectly right to say drinking unfiltered water is unsafe, however, it is equally right to say drinking distilled water on a regular, daily basis is potentially dangerous. This might provoke the anger to most health fanatics, where they spend higher price to acquire the bottled distilled water as per liter basis. Am I mad or insane to give that kind of comment? It has been long time peoples are having the perception that distilled water is a clean and purified water and that’s why it is charged more expensively than other drinking water.

Well, hear me out here. I did mentioned “peoples are having the perception that distilled water is a clean and purified…”, it is truly cleaned and purified once you understand distillation process where water is boiled, evaporated, the vapour condensed then being collected as distilled water, which is free of dissolved minerals due to minerals have much higher boiling points. Traces of minerals which has the special property of being able to actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them had been removed effectively from our drinking water.

Studies shown that drinking distilled water cleanse or detoxify our body system for short periods of time (a few weeks continuously), and that’s why some dietician will include drinking distilled water as part of the programs. However, fasting using distilled water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies of which can cause heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure. Dipping, washing foods or even cooking foods in distilled water pulls the minerals out of them (osmosis process), thus the food will be less nutritious.

Distilled water is an active absorber and when it comes into contact with air, it absorbs carbon dioxide, making it acidic. The more distilled water a person drinks, the higher the body acidity becomes. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, “Distilled water, being essentially mineral-free, is very aggressive, in that it tends to dissolve substances with which it is in contact. Notably, carbon dioxide from the air is rapidly absorbed, making the water acidic and even more aggressive. Many metals are dissolved by distilled water.”

Little that we know, soft drinks and other carbonated drink that we are addicted to and consume frequently, are the most toxic commercial beverages which are made from distilled water. Studies have found that peoples that drink lots of soft drinks (sweeten or not) drain off huge amounts of calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals from the system, into the urine. As the amount of mineral loss considerably increases, the greater the risk for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and a long list of degenerative diseases generally associated with premature aging.

Another could be the major concern of most women, that aging and disease is the direct result of the accumulation of acid waste products in the body. Increasing number of health care practitioners and scientists from around the world have been advocating this theory, skin care and cosmetic company have been moving away from acidic ingredients and using water with natural minerals as the base of their products.

Besides aging, correlation between the consumption of soft water (distilled water is extremely soft) and the incidence of cardiovascular disease is also being frequently debated. Cells, tissues and organs do not like to be dipped in acid and will do anything to buffer this acidity including the removal of minerals from the skeleton and the manufacture of bicarbonate in the blood.

To avoid the likeliness of developing multiple mineral deficiencies and causing system in an acid state, it is advisable to stop drinking distilled water. Some might be persist ant in consuming distilled water, but supplement by taking multi-minerals pill, which are not as deficient but still not as adequately nourished in minerals as drinking well balance water from a multi-stage filtration system which leave the good trace of minerals as it should be, as the nature intended. The ideal water for the human body should be slightly alkaline and this requires the presence of minerals like calcium and magnesium and that’s why getting a best home water filtration system is so important. The system that can filter or remove all the containing but keeping the good trace of minerals.

I am not trying to scare you off neither threatening you about buying a water purification products, but the true fact is disease and early death is more likely to be seen with the long term drinking of distilled water. Avoid it except in special circumstances. Longevity is associated with the regular consumption of hard water (high in minerals) and choosing the right whole house water treatment system is so vital especially for your love one.

Water is vital for our survival. But it can also be critical in helping you lose weight. When beginning a weight loss program, many people fail to incorporate enough water into their diet, causing them to lose the benefits that water can provide. As a result, they don’t lose as much weight as they should.

It has been said that water is a natural way to counteract hunger pains. When you drink water, you tend to ‘feel full’ quite quickly. It also flushes out your system, allowing your body to rid itself of harmful toxins. Water can also boost your energy level and improve your metabolism, allowing you to consume calories more quickly.

Research indicates that hunger and thirst may be inextricably linked. That means that at times, you may think that you’re hungry, while actually you’re thirsty. Drinking water during those periods can help you to feel satiated without expanding your waistline. As a result, by consuming water, you may feel less of a need to eat.

You might be wondering, however, how much water is enough. Generally speaking, you should be drinking eight ounce glasses of water eight times a day. However, if you are heavier, you might actually require more water than that. It has been proven that obese people need more water than thin people. You should probably check with your health care provider to determine how much water is right for you. You should also be sure to drink water when you are exercising in order to replace fluids that you lose through perspiration.

Of course, you may not enjoy the taste of water, particularly tap water. As a result, you might consider drinking water flavoured with lemon, eating soup, or consuming fruits high in water content. Water can combat high blood pressure and can decrease your cholesterol levels. It can also be a remedy against water retention, kidney trouble, skin problems, and migraines. It may even help to prevent cancer.

Water can also enhance your muscle tone, helping you to achieve a more clearly defined physique. Therefore, it is particularly important that you drink a great deal of water if you enter into a strength training program. You cannot expect your muscles to work properly if you do not hydrate them with water.

The temperature of your water can also make a significant difference. It is believed that water that is cold is digested faster than water that is of a higher temperature. In fact, water that is relatively cold in temperature can actually serve as a calorie-burner.

You may be surprised to learn that your body is comprised of nearly 70 percent water. Therefore, water is crucial for the proper functioning of your metabolism. Water can also help to regulate your body temperature, enabling your body to work more effectively.

Certain symptoms will emerge if you’re not consuming enough water. For instance, you may find it difficult to concentrate. You may also have a constant feeling of being tired. You may be constipated or experience dry skin. At times, you may also feel constipated and you may notice that you’re not passing as much urine as you should.

Of course, if you are not getting enough water in your diet, the remedy is simple just turns on the tap and let it flow. However, realistically, it can be difficult to get into the water habit. Therefore, you might have to trick your body into drinking water. How do you do this? To begin with, you should consider drinking a glass of water as soon as you get up in the morning. This will ensure that you are getting your day off to a healthy start. Have a drink in mid-morning and another right before lunch. If you drink a cup with lunch, you will have already had half of your daily water requirements.

Have a drink in the mid-afternoon, another at dinner, one after dinner, and one right before bed. In this way, you will likely be getting all the water your body needs. Try this experiment for a few weeks, and you may be amazed at the difference you see in your health and appearance.

test blog

It seems like every time you turn your head someone is talking about our polluted environment and how it is effecting our food, air and water. Nothing has had a greater impact on protecting us from environmental contamination than water purification technology. However, not all methods of water purification are created equally. Different methods produce different results. So how can you be sure to pick the method that is best suited to meet the needs of you and your family?

In order to help answer that question, let’s look at a brief description of some of the different methods of water purification and their different results.

Chlorination

Chlorination is one of the oldest, and most widely-used water treatment methods. 100 years ago, the discovery of chlorine as an effective disinfectant meant that devastating, water-borne epidmics such as cholera and typhoid could finally be wiped out. But as times have changed, so have our water purification needs. The threat of disease has been replaced by environmental toxins. As such, the need for disinfection has been replaced by the need for filtration.

Unfortunately, chlorine has now also been identified as having its own toxic properties, including releasing dangerous chloroform gas, and causing leaching of lead when coming into contact with aging home plumbing. Chlorine also fails to disinfect intestinal parasites such as cryptosporidium, and giardia, which can be especially tough on a child’s developing intestinal tract. As far as water purification technology goes, chlorination is definitely out-dated.

Bottled Water

No one knows what types of methods of water purification, if any, are used to produce bottled water. The government does not require bottled water to be any cleaner than tap water. You basically have to take the word of the bottled water company that you’re getting safe, clean water.

Bottled water can also be expensive and results in an inordinate amount of environmental waste. Over 60,000,000 plastic bottles are produced, transported and disposed of EVERY DAY in the U.S. alone!

Despite having some major drawbacks, this so-called water purification technology, continues to be popular with consumers.

Distillation

One of the methods of water purification that still enjoys wide-spread use is distillation. This is a complex process where water is passed over a hot coil, in order to create water vapor. This vapor is sent to a cooling chamber so that it condenses back into liquid form. This process results in a separation between water and inorganic substances like lead, calcium, magnesium etc. Bacteria are also destroyed.

Distillation is a water purification technology that was originally developed for industrial use. But because of the increase in demand for in-home water treatment, distillation companies took advantage of the marketing opportunity. However this process is not very effective removing organic chemicals, so a carbon filtration system must be added to make the water truly safe for drinking. Carbon filters require regular changing since they can quickly become breeding grounds for bacterial growth.

While distilled water is safe, it isn’t healthy, since it has been de-mineralized. This form of water purification technology is also very slow and costs approximately 20 – 26 cents per gallon. Add to that the cost of the carbon filter and the result is an unwieldy water purification system.

Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis is a fancy term to describe a process whereby water is forced, by pressure, through a fine-porous membrane that traps harmful contaminants. This is another water purification technology that was designed to address industrial requirements and then adapted for home use.

One result of using reverse osmosis in your home is that, like distillation, it strips out much needed trace amounts of calcium, magnesium and potassium. Water processed by reverse osmosis is, in fact, dead water. Minerals in water are Nature’s way of protecting our health by preventing mineral deficiencies.

Reverse osmosis is a complex form of water purification technology that also results in a lot of upkeep. Case in point: you can expect to pay around $800 just to get a replacement filter.

Multi-Stage Filtration

The multi-stage filtration process combines the most efficient technologies available, including mechanical filtration, absorption and ion-exchange. This advanced water purification technology works first to reduce specific contaminants like sediment, chlorine, lead and other synthetic chemicals (e.g. herbicides and pesticides) while trapping chlorine resistant organisms and cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia.

Next, unlike other methods of water purification, multi-stage filtration works to enhance the natural mineral water balance of the water.

In-home multi-stage filtration systems come in the form of under and top-of-the-counter drinking water dispensers, shower filters and whole-house water filters. These systems are generally easy to install and maintain.

Multi-stage filtration results in affordable, healthy, great-tasting water at a cost of under 10 cents a gallon. Make no mistake about it.

The demand for clean drinking water isn’t going to go away. With all the different methods of water purification available today, you need to know what kind of results you can expect from investing in water purification technology.
